Kill la Kill

Today’s review is on everybody’s favourite fan service anime Kill la Kill. Recently I finished all 24 episodes and I have to say, I’m not a big fan.

At the prestigious Honnouji Academy, a high school unlike any other. The academy is ruled by the imposing and cold-hearted student council president Satsuki Kiryuuin alongside her powerful underlings, the Elite Four. In the school’s brutally competitive hierarchy, Satsuki bestows upon those at the top special clothes called “Goku Uniforms,” which grant the wearer unique superhuman abilities.

Following Ryuuko Matoi she arrives at Honnouji Acadamy wanting answers for her father’s death and carrying around half a piece of giant scissors wants to know the wielder of the other half. Ryuuko retreats to her razed home where she stumbles across Senketsu, a rare and sentient “Kamui,” or God Clothes. After coming into contact with Ryuuko’s blood, Senketsu awakens, latching onto her and providing her with immense power. Now, armed with Senketsu and the Scissor Blade, Ryuuko makes a stand against the Elite Four, hoping to reach Satsuki and uncover the culprit behind her father’s murder once and for all.

The Music for Kill la Kill’s opening and ending themes, for most anime music is the thing that brings it to life, brings fight scenes the glory it needs but for Kill la Kill I didn’t like any of the music they used, there is one OST Track that I absolutely love its called ‘Blumenkranzwhich is made by no other than Hiroyuki Sawano.

Hiroyuki has to be one of my favourite Japanese music makers as he was the one who did the whole of Attack of titans soundtrack and we all know how much everyone loves that.

Ryuuko Matoi is everyone’s favourite’s heroine because she’s a total badass, she doesn’t care what other people think of her when she first puts on Senketsu she is embarrassed because it shows more shin than she’d like but after forming a bond with the clothing ‘Yes I did say form a bond with it’ she goes to fight at Honnouji Academy’s club captains at a chance to fight the student council.

But because Ryuuko has to fight the whole school she finally finds a friend in no star Mako Mankanshoku and ends up staying with her family, In episode 8 she tells Senketsu that she loves when they sit around a table and eat a family dinner as she never had that with her dad and her mother died before she was born, but when the episode unravels and they end up going in rank and get better living quarters she comes to realize it was a bad idea as the family dinners end up her eating alone.

We come to a conclusion, even though Ryuuko seems more grown-up than a badass 17 year old should be she feels sad when she feels like the family she had grown to love was just like her life before so she decides to do something about it and at the end of episode 8 they are back in the slums eating it out like a family.

Satsuki Kiryuin is the antagonist in the first half of the series up to probably episode 18 Satsuki is the daughter of CEO Ragyō Kiryuin of Revocs Corporation, Revocs is a heavily influential textile company. Recovs then reveals that all of its clothing contains life fibers because her mother’s dastardly plan to take over the world with the life fibers we then find out Satsuki had used her years and her money to stop her mum once and for all.

Satsuki is head of the student council and because of her mother she ruled over her school with an iron fist, throwing out whoever wasn’t worthy, Satsuki is beautiful and tall and also can come off very snudy and cruel because of the power she has, the student council admires her for her tenacity and beauty she each gives them the will to serve under her and achieve whatever they want to. But for me, the only person out of the student council I really liked was Ira Gamagōri which was the only one had resolve and was the one who evolved the most within the show.

Mako Mankanshoku hands down stole the show for me, If it wasn’t for her I don’t

think I would have continued on watching, Mako is the daughter of a back ally doctor, along with her mother, brother and dog gutts take in Ryuuko when she saves Mako from a beating from the student council.

Mako is her own person and is never told to be anyone else, she is loving and kind and dam right insane like most of her family, she has never not stood by and not been inside the action even though she has no special abilities like the rest of the show, most people would have said she was a pointless character, and that’s where I disagree.

Because Mako has no special abilities she is able to ground Ryuuko when she’s on a rampage, she is the life and soul of the story and the characters. There is never a time where Mako isn’t in the heart of the battle babbling on about something that deems unnecessary at the time but when you actually hear what she’s talking about makes total sense and never fails to make me laugh.

But because of Mako and the one piece of music produced by Hiroyuki, I never really seemed to enjoy the show to what it actually deserved, Kill la Kill was produced by the creators of Gurren Lagann and FLCL which deserves applause in its own right.

I would definitely give the show a watch but in my opinion, I wasted most of my day watching the show.
