Terror in Resonance (Zankyou no Terror)

Many people have there top ten anime that they’ve watched, well meet my number one anime, Terror in Resonance (Zankyou no Terror)

Red words “VON” is scribbled onto the floor of a Japanese warehouse housing a deadly weapon that sends the Japanese cabinet and police into a frenzy.

6 months later the police is turned to the internet when two boys calling themselves “Sphinx” challenge the police, threatening to cause destruction and mayhem across Tokyo. Unable to stop the mass panic quickly spreading through the city and desperate for any leads in their investigation, the police struggle to act effectively against these terrorists, with Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki caught in the middle of it all.

This story follows two boys calling themselves Nine and Twelve calling themselves Sphinx but you begin to realize they’re not real terrorists just uncovering their terrible past.

Now when I read the synopsis to this particular anime I was practically drawn in, especially when I watched the trailer to this spectacular show. Everyone watches an anime for its story and plot but what really got me was the soundtrack for this entire show played by Yoko Kanno.

Yoko Kanno’s music brought happiness to my ears but also sadness, this show isn’t exciting it is to show that the world can be cruel and isn’t all it is set up to be. If I was you I would check out the soundtrack before watching the show as you will be drawn in to see what the music represents within the show.

As the show suggests Nine and Twelve are the main characters of this show, each boy is not like the other, they see things differently in what happened to them but they stay together until the end and we realize they weren’t so different after all.

Nine is the taller boy with black hair and seems to be the calmest out of the two, you see him more behind the scenes than out in the open like his partner in crime.

Twelve is the happier one out of the two you see him in multiple scenes laughing and having a joke this brings him to get young Lisa involved in their scheme and you see him at the end leave his friend and rescue the girl he had possibly fallen in love with.

Lisa is a young lady who’s mum has gone mad, Lisa is picked on in school where one day she is saved by Twelve, because of this Lisa is caught up in there plot and is therefor called there ‘Captive’ when really she realizes helping them is the right thing but that doesn’t keep her from getting caught almost every episode.

Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki is behind the force that drives the Tokyo police as he is the first to realize there the first riddle of there plan, he is then put in charge of the case despite being demoted years before and sent down to archives.

because Shibazaki’s past the boys home in on his skills for him to realize there plan and in the end get justice for them and what they were put through.

Five is just like Nine and Twelve but was hired by the US Government FBI years before, she travels to Japan in pursuit of the boys, to me her character wasn’t needed per se but it put pressure on Nine who seemed to have liked her in the past and is out-put when she arrives, Five is almost as crazy as Nine but is also level headed and gets the job done.

Anything can happen in anime and the fact that the Japanese government experimenting on children is one of the well-thought story plots I’ve ever seen, because of this the Tokyo area is effected and lives are put in the crosshairs even though no one died.

Human actions whether it be big or small have consequences and everyone apart of the project was responsible for the boys’ actions and at the end of the 12 episodes the world finally finds out what happens after a dreadful sight in the last 10 minutes of episode 12.

The animation for this show is incredible, the grey and white scenes with no color tell the story exactly how it is meant to be, there is no adventure in this anime it is sad and shows that all manner of life is to be cherished no matter small.

I recommend this anime but if you are to watch it, you cant stop and start, you have to watch it from start to finish, it may take you the whole day with bathroom breaks and time to eat but you will not be disappointed in Terror in Resonance.
