Code Breaker

This 13 episode anime I decided to rewatch recently, I had watched this many years ago and since I have plenty of free time on my hand I thought I would review it while I was at it 🙂

Without a further ado I give you Code breaker.

Snynopsis

Riding the bus one day, Sakurakouji Sakura looks out the window to see people being burned alive with a blue fire and a boy her age who’s unharmed and standing over the people.

She comes back to the site the next day and there are no corpses or evidence of any kind of murder, just a small fire. She then goes to class to find there’s a new transfer student, Oogami Rei, who looks exactly like the boy she saw before and wears a black glove only on his left hand.

Oogami is a Code Breaker, one who “does not exist”. He is a seemingly cold-blooded killer who follows the principle of “an eye for an eye”, to “use evil against evil”. Convinced that killing is not right, Sakurakouji sets out to stop him and penetrate his icy heart.

My Opnion

This 13 episode anime came out in fall of 2012 and was given to funimation to dub.

Main characters voice actors include Leading lady Ashly Burch who voices no other than Sasha blouse in the english dub of Attack on titan and once I found this out I was ecstatic, her lead role as miss Sakura sakurakoji blew me away, I felt every powerful emotion in her performance as Sakura is strong and beautiful and has a very strong feeling of how justice should be but it isnt nessisarily a good thing.

Other voice actors include Micah Solusod, Jerry Jewell, Todd haberkorn, J. Michael Tatum and David Matranga.

I believe, and I hope most people believe that justice shouldn’t be taken into just one person’s hands, killing is wrong, Cold blooded murder is wrong and everyone should know between right and wrong and this anime shows just what Morals humans can have if they look deep enough.

Sakura is a very brave young woman and I applaud her for it but I find that many scenes are her just sitting back and watching the code breakers just continue what she wants them to stop, it is very common for a female protagonist to do this , even though Sakura can look after herself but If I was her to protect her life and her friends and family she should just let it go, but a lass that wouldn’t make much a story would it?

It isn’t really until episode 5 you get a character development but I think most people would disagree with this statement, we actually see Sakura’s heart waver between good and bad, were already a qauter of a way through but we don’t get any good awnsers to the burning questions and behind scenes we see, Who is Code breaker 0 and why is he working against the others.

There are a lot of terms and phrases thrown out in this anime kind of reminding of me of the iconic like “I’m all fired up now”. What certainly made me laugh was Toki’s way of being lost, never in a million years have thought that’s the way each of the code breakers went when they would go over their limits

We all have that burning question in the back of our heads right from episode one, why wasnt sakura killed when Ogami tried to burn her?

Well, I think episode 7 explains all of them questions and more about who Sakura is and why she is important to the storyline, but after the last second is done comes up were asking even more questions and I like that this anime keeps everyone on their toes.

Now talking about my favourite code breaker has to be, Heikei voiced my J. Micheal Tatum. Even though Yuuki is probably my second favourite code breaker Heikei is so odd, I love that he finds a chance to have tea and read a book anywhere and talk in rhymes and riddles

Code Number 2 Heike

I have seen many super powered animes before like Tokyo ESP and bungo stray dogs but something about this late 2000s anime is always a personal favourite.

I give Code Breaker a 7/10
